Readers judge the cover. We make sure it holds up.
A cover has to do a lot in a very small space: signal genre, set tone, and read clearly whether it's on a shelf or a thumbnail an inch wide on a phone screen. Our designers start with your genre and your reader, then build a cover that earns a second look.
A cover is a piece of information design before it's a piece of art
A striking image that doesn't read as your genre will cost you the readers who were looking for exactly your kind of book. Before we open a design file, we look at what your genre's covers tend to do: the color logic, the typography choices, the way titles are weighted against imagery, so your cover fits on the shelf it's meant for while still standing out on it.
This service is built for authors who need a complete, print ready and retail ready cover: a wraparound design for a physical book, or a standalone eBook cover optimized for the sizes readers actually encounter it at. Every project includes a concept stage, a defined round of revisions, and final files formatted for how you're publishing.
Everything a cover needs to work in print and online
Genre Research
We look at comparable covers in your genre and category to identify the visual conventions readers already associate with it: what to lean into, and where there's room to stand apart.
Concept Development
Initial cover concepts built around a mood, palette and typographic direction, presented for your reaction before any concept is developed further.
Typography
Title and author name treatment chosen for legibility and genre fit, not just style: a title that's beautiful but unreadable at a glance doesn't do its job.
Full Print Wrap
Front cover, spine and back cover designed together as a single wraparound piece, with back cover space set aside for your blurb, synopsis or author bio.
Print Ready Files
Final files built to your trim size and page count, with bleed, margins and barcode placement set correctly for your printer or print on demand platform.
eBook Cover & Thumbnail Testing
A separate eBook cover, cropped and simplified from the print concept, then checked at actual retail thumbnail size to confirm the title and imagery still read clearly that small.
From concept to print ready files
-
Design Brief
We ask about your genre, comparable titles, trim size and format, and anything you already know you do or don't want on the cover.
-
Concept Round
Your designer presents a small set of distinct directions, different moods or typographic approaches, so you're choosing a direction, not tweaking a single option.
-
Chosen Concept, Developed
Once you pick a direction, we build it out in full: front cover, spine and back cover, with typography and layout refined in detail.
-
Revision Round
You review the developed cover and request changes, such as a color shift, a different title treatment, or a repositioned element, within your project's included revision round.
-
Thumbnail Check
Before final delivery, we view the cover at actual retail thumbnail size to confirm the title stays legible and the design still reads clearly that small.
-
Final Delivery
Print ready wraparound files and a separate, retail optimized eBook cover, delivered in the formats your printer or publishing platform requires.
A print cover and an eBook cover are not the same design job
A physical cover has to hold up on a shelf at full size, with room for a spine and back cover copy. An eBook cover is judged almost entirely as a small, flat rectangle, usually a thumbnail, so imagery gets simpler and type gets bolder. We design both, rather than shrinking one to stand in for the other.

Cover conventions shift by genre: your designer accounts for that
A thriller and a memoir don't send the same visual signals, and readers notice quickly when a cover sends the wrong one.

What it's like to work with a designer here
“I never would have guessed a thumbnail size test would matter this much until I saw my first concept shrink down and lose the title completely.”

“The concept round gave me real options instead of one design to accept or reject. Picking a direction felt like my decision, not a guess.”

“My designer knew my genre before I explained it. The first concepts already looked like they belonged on the same shelf as the books I love.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, and as two related but distinct designs. The print cover is a full wraparound with a spine and back cover; the eBook cover is a standalone front cover image simplified and tested for how small it appears on retail platforms and devices.
We view the eBook cover at actual retail thumbnail size before final delivery, not just at full resolution on a large monitor. If the title or a key visual element gets lost that small, we simplify or resize it until it still reads clearly.
Yes. The concept round presents a small set of genuinely different directions, different moods, palettes or typographic approaches, so your choice is between distinct options, not variations on a single idea.
We design the back cover layout with space reserved for your blurb, synopsis or bio, but the words themselves are yours to provide (or we can point you toward our editing team if you'd like a second opinion on the copy itself).
Every project includes a defined revision round once your chosen concept has been developed in full: enough to adjust color, typography or layout details. We'll confirm the specifics for your project before work begins.
Print ready files formatted to your exact trim size, with bleed and margins set for your printer or print on demand platform, plus a separate high resolution eBook cover file sized for the retailers you're publishing through.
Yes, bring reference covers, color preferences or a rough idea, and we'll factor them into the concept stage alongside genre research. Reference images guide direction; we don't copy another book's cover.
Yes. Print files are built with correct space and placement for a barcode, price box and any other elements your distributor or printer requires, so the finished file is ready to submit without rework.
